It is used as a means of raising monies for local charities and the objective is for a deputation from any of the twenty Freemason's Lodges within the province to capture the trowel from the lodge holding it and return it to their lodge.
Before the trowel is captured a donation is collected and handed over to Provincial Grand Lodge.
The lodge holding the trowel at the end of the season has the opportunity to nominate a local charity to receive the money, which has been collected throughout the year.
It is also a great way to promote visits between daughter lodges throughout the season, with all the benefits that brings.

Bill was an honorary member of our lodge and a regular visitor over the last few years, in fact rarely missing a meeting. He has generously bequeathed the sum of £500:00 to the lodge.

The above meeting was called by the R.W.M. Alan McConnach on Thursday 26th.August 2010 to discuss a plan of action re repairs required to the south chimney stack.

After a somewhat lengthy discussion it was agreed by those present for the secretary to apply for planning permission to facilitate the following:

·         Demolition and rebuilding of the chimney stack on the south of the building.

·         Rebuilt chimney to be constructed of ‘breeze block’ with new coping and finished with coloured render and sculpted joint lines.

·         No remedial work to north chimney, but also to be finished with coloured render and sculpted joint lines.

·         Reinstatement of lead ‘flashing’ on both chimneys.

·         Work to be carried out by Bro. Allan Catto at his discretion once ‘plans’ passed.

The planned remedial work on the south chimney stack will have to be rethought as it now appears that a change in the products used would require special planning permission. It seems that we're back to square one trying to source original sandstone.                                                                                    February 2011.
